Gas off 8.5% after EIA Storage and Production reports

Posted by

Storage levels of natural gas rose by 83 Bcf, which was above the expectation of 77 Bcf and the 5 year average of 63 Bcf.  The Producing and West regions were the biggest contributors to this high injection, along with lower power generation demand.  Of equal if not greater significance to the market was the release of the monthly EIA-914 report on Thursday, featuring a new survey methodology for estimating gas production.  Supply estimates from 2009 and January 2010 were revised down by approximately 1.3% for the US.  The changes ranged from -.03 to -1.3 Bcf/d and mostly impacted the…

The Transportation Industry and Electric Vehicles: How Will the Energy be Supplied?

Posted by

Last week I focused on electric vehicles and the drivers, environmental and regulatory, which are impacting the way the transportation industry operates and adopts the use of electric vehicles (EVs).

With over 250 million light duty vehicles on the road in the U.S., how will the energy be supplied?

Charging Infrastructure
There are multiple charging infrastructure options to consider: private charging at residential homes and fleet vehicle storage centers, public street charging, workplace charging and private parking charging.

Much of the success of electric powered vehicles lies within the modernization of the Smart Grid; the current electric…

Posted by

Last week, the Illinois Competitive Energy Association joined with major business trade organizations to form the STOP Coalition to express concern of a recent cost report that was released in reference to the development of the Taylorville Energy Center in Illinois.    The Taylorville Energy Center (TEC) is a proposed coal-to-gas plant that, if approved by the Illinois General Assembly, would be financed on the backs of Illinois consumers.

In addition to the Illinois Competitive Association, members of the Stop Coalition include the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Manufacturers’ Association, Illinois Retail Merchants Association, Illinois State Chamber…
