As the supplier to two-thirds of the Fortune 100 companies and more than 90,000 businesses, institutions and government agencies across the United States, we get to see energy and sustainability trends from a unique perspective. Across the country, companies and agencies are grappling with how to make short-term decisions with long-term plans in a world of economic, policy and technological uncertainty.

Constellation Supports Settlement in Arizona; Could Bring Customer Choice to Large C&I Customers in Arizona Public Service (APS) Territory

Posted by

There are interesting developments happening in Arizona, which could bring customer choice to large commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. I recently testified along with other energy industry leaders on behalf of a settlement in the Arizona Public Service (APS) rate case, which would allow a capped amount of load associated with large power users to select alternative generation suppliers.

The Settlement Agreement, if approved, will require APS to implement Experimental Rate Schedule AG-1, a buy-through rate for large commercial and industrial customers for a period of four years, with participation capped at 200 MW of peak load.

The LNG Revolution

The growing demand for more electric choice competition in Michigan has been thoroughly documented once again in the annual report issued earlier this month by the Michigan Public Service Commission.

In all, about 6,400 companies remain captive on a waiting list for competitive electric choice – handcuffed by a 2008 state law that puts a 10 percent cap on the electric load open to competition.

The flaws in the state’s monopoly utility system…

Government Agencies Getting More Strategic With Sustainable Energy Management

Posted by

Today, many government agencies face a variety of challenges that may directly impact their energy strategy, such as strict mandates, budget cuts, economic fluctuation, and dependence on foreign energy sources.

When faced with such obstacles, agencies may be inclined to purchase energy independently, in “silos.” However, progressive government organizations may choose to develop innovative total energy management strategies to control costs, consumption, and security, while maintaining regulatory compliance.

It appears that the second approach outlined above is becoming more widely adopted by government agencies. According to a recent article by the Environment & Energy Daily…

Apple, Google and the Lowest Energy Prices in 7 Years

Posted by

What do Apple®, Google® and Amazon® have to do with your business’ energy budget? Well, let’s go back just over two years to March 2009…. Back then, Apple stock (AAPL) was trading at $85 a share. Today, AAPL trades around $502 a share.

How about Google? At that same time Google was trading at $308 and now it’s $604. And Amazon, which is now trading at around $182 was, back in October 2009, trading at just $62.

Sure, some people took advantage and saw their fortunes soar, but most did not… Why?

Why people don’t take advantage of
