Exploring Energy Solutions for Sustainable Embassies

Earlier this month I was honored to join government leaders along with international institutions and embassies to discuss ways that they can improve their environmental, energy, and sustainability performance. The event, “Energy Solutions for Sustainable Embassies,” was held on June 4 by the League of Green Embassies, the DC Greening Embassies Forum, and the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in recognition of the United Nation’s World Environment Day, bringing together over 30 embassies and 50 businesses.

USGS Estimates Undiscovered Natural Gas Resources Along the East Coast

On June 20, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) released estimates for undiscovered natural gas reserves within five Mesozoic shale basins along the East Coast.  The area assessed extends from parts of Georgia north through Massachusetts (see map to the right). These new shale resources comprise similar characteristics to those in Marcellus Shale. The successful development of the Marcellus Shale since 2009 is an indicator that these undiscovered resources could be utilized in a similar manner in the years to come.

Some California Direct Access Customers to Receive Significant Refunds

We have exciting news for our commercial and industrial customers in California. Direct Access (DA) customers should take note of a change in non-bypassable charges, which may result in significant refunds for many customers.

What Are Non-Bypassable Charges?
Non-by passable charges include utility charges that all customers must pay, including transmission and distribution charges. DA customers must also pay a non-bypassable charge referred to as the Power Charge Indifference Amount (PCIA) – that is the DA customer’s share of “stranded costs” associated with purchases made by the utility before the customer left utility service.

Summer Starts Off Hot in the East: High Temperatures Expected in Texas Next Week

Summer 2012 officially began with a warm start at midnight on Wednesday, June 20with daytime temperatures in the Mid 90’s to +100 degrees farenheit in New England, the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest.  Meteorologists credit a high pressure system over the Great Plains that has allowed dry heat from the Southwest to move into the Midwest and extend into the East before a cold front moves in this weekend.  Next week will bring cooler temperatures to the East but Texas will see its first shot of upper 90’s to +100 degree weather and ERCOT is already predicting record June demand above…
