One Year Later: GSA Selects Constellation to Supply 17 Federal Facilities in Ca.

Posted by

About one year ago, we announced the U.S. Department of State’s innovative energy savings agreement to help contribute to President Obama’s executive order to reduce federal-wide greenhouse gas emissions as well as spur job growth and wind and solar development in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Today, we have some exciting news to share as we continue working with the U.S. Department of State to provide an estimated 120,000 MWh of energy annually to their facilities and other federal government facilities over a 20-year power purchase agreement…

Legislation Introduced to Expand Electric Competition in Michigan

Posted by

Today Rep. Mike Shirkey (R-District 65) introduced new legislation in Michigan that would amend a portion of the 2008 Energy Bill (PA 286) and address the significant demand for customer choice and electric competition for more than 7,000 Michigan businesses waiting for the opportunity. The legislation proposes a measured, phased approach to expanding electric competition in Michigan and provides welcome relief to consumers who pay dramatically higher energy bills.

If enacted, the proposed legislation will gradually restore much needed competition to the state’s energy marketplace, give consumers equal opportunity to pay less for their energy, and put an end…

ERCOT’s Preliminary Summer Assessment

Posted by

ERCOT’s preliminary summer assessment was released on March 1 and it is predicting tight reserve margins this summer.  Reserve margins are the measure of available capacity over and above the capacity needed to meet normal peak demand levels.  They serve as insurance if there is a sudden loss of generation or an increase in energy demand.

ERCOT would like reserve margins to be at least 13.75%, but the forecast for this summer just dropped from 12.2% to 8.6% due to demand growth outpacing new generation and weather forecasts calling for above normal temperatures during July and August. This summer’s…

Constellation Supports Settlement in Arizona; Could Bring Customer Choice to Large C&I Customers in Arizona Public Service (APS) Territory

Posted by

There are interesting developments happening in Arizona, which could bring customer choice to large commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. I recently testified along with other energy industry leaders on behalf of a settlement in the Arizona Public Service (APS) rate case, which would allow a capped amount of load associated with large power users to select alternative generation suppliers.

The Settlement Agreement, if approved, will require APS to implement Experimental Rate Schedule AG-1, a buy-through rate for large commercial and industrial customers for a period of four years, with participation capped at 200 MW of peak load.

Under…
