How Constellation and Exelon Are Serving the Community

Posted by Constellation on August 03, 2016

Constellation’s parent company Exelon recently outlined its ongoing commitment to sustainability in its 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. This commitment drives Constellation’s strategic initiatives and is central to our own mission of providing innovative energy products and solutions that are cleaner, more affordable and more reliable.

The report outlines how Exelon’s business and sustainability strategy creates value for its customers and showcases its culture of environmental stewardship, innovation and community service. With that, we wanted to highlight some of Constellation’s contributions to Exelon’s 2015 success. This post is the third in a three-part series summarizing Constellation’s impact on the business.

Community

Constellation employees spent more than 24,000 hours volunteering and serving the community last year. That’s more than 10 hours of service per employee. Additionally, Constellation contributed more than $4 million to local and national nonprofit organizations working in support of our focus areas of education, the environment and economic development. Employees contributed another $825,000 of their own dollars to causes and organizations important to them.

Our efforts were part of Exelon’s enhanced corporate citizenship program in 2015, which increased employee charitable giving by 12 percent over the prior year and resulted in nearly 130,000 hours in community service. From serving as mentors to local middle school students, to oyster farming at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor in support of Chesapeake Bay conservation efforts, Constellation and its employees support a wide range of programs and organizations.

E2 Energy to EducateSM: Through the E2 Energy to EducateSM grant program, Constellation offers students in grades 6-12 and college opportunities to work on solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s energy challenges. Grant funds support projects designed to enhance students’ understanding of science and technology, and inspire them to think differently about energy.

Community Champions: Through Constellation’s Community Champions program, our customers can apply for small grants (up to $500) from Constellation for causes that are important to their community. Preferred consideration is given to those requests where the project, organization or initiative focuses on education, the environment or youth.

Habitat for Humanity: Inspired by its impact on families and communities, Constellation has supported Habitat for Humanity for more than a decade. In 2015, Constellation announced a two-year, $200,000 initiative aimed at reducing energy costs for Habitat partner families through solar generation, weatherization and other energy efficiency solutions. In Boston, Constellation supported solar installations on a group of townhouses that helped reduce energy costs for the families, and in Chicago, we facilitated energy improvements to 10 homes, resulting in an estimated average annual savings of $790.
