How to Communicate the Importance of Energy Data to Management & Get Buy-In

Posted by

There’s no question that businesses can more easily manage their energy costs by aggregating and analyzing energy data. But, communicating the importance of energy data management to key management remains a challenge for many energy managers. So I was happy to have the opportunity to answer the question, “How can we translate the importance of energy data to top management and get buy-in from stakeholders” that was asked during the webinar that we recently presented with Environmental Leader. (With more than 600 people registering, it is clear that Strategic Energy Procurement and Energy Data are hot topics…

Tenaska’s Taylorville Energy Center Legislation On Hold

Posted by

Last week was the end of the spring legislative session in Illinois, and the controversial bill for Tenaska’s Taylorville Energy Center was not called for consideration before the House Public Utilities Committee. The bill called for the development of a costly power plant that would result in consumers and businesses paying substantially higher electricity rates.

The support of our customers, along with the efforts of the STOP Coalition and several other stakeholder groups, was vital to the opposition of the bill and we appreciate the continued support, emails, and outreach to elected officials. We plan to continue to…

About one year ago, we announced the U.S. Department of State’s innovative energy savings agreement to help contribute to President Obama’s executive order to reduce federal-wide greenhouse gas emissions as well as spur job growth and wind and solar development in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Legislation Introduced to Expand Electric Competition in Michigan

Posted by

Today Rep. Mike Shirkey (R-District 65) introduced new legislation in Michigan that would amend a portion of the 2008 Energy Bill (PA 286) and address the significant demand for customer choice and electric competition for more than 7,000 Michigan businesses waiting for the opportunity. The legislation proposes a measured, phased approach to expanding electric competition in Michigan and provides welcome relief to consumers who pay dramatically higher energy bills.

If enacted, the proposed legislation will gradually restore much needed competition to the state’s energy marketplace, give consumers equal opportunity to pay less for their energy, and put an end…

Michigan Legislators: Businesses are Speaking Up Against the State’s Current Energy Policy

Posted by

Businesses in Michigan will continue to be negatively impacted by the state’s current energy policy until legislators recognize that the 10 percent cap must be eliminated or raised to a much higher level. The legislation (PA 286), as it stands today, has frustrated businesses that were not fortunate to have entered into a contract with a competitive supplier prior to the cap being hit may lead them to move their businesses elsewhere, which would hurt the state’s economy and business climate.

About a week and a half ago, the Jackson Citizen Patriot published an editorial by the newspaper’s…

Attention, IL Businesses: SB 1653 Could Result in Significant Electric Rate Increase

Posted by

As the Illinois General Assembly returns this week for the Fall Veto Session there is one issue that is likely to be addressed, and if adopted will result in a significant electric rate increase.

The issue I’m talking about is the Taylorville Energy Center (TEC) proposal, which would require Illinois businesses, families, and government agencies to subsidize a power plant by paying almost $9 billion over a 30-year period.  While the General Assembly has twice rejected earlier iterations of this plan, the proponent of the subsidy proposal, Tenaska Energy, wants the General Assembly to enact SB 1653 – legislation…
