Sustainability Story: Pro Football Hall of Fame Village
As organizations become more aware of their carbon footprint and environmental impact, they are developing new corporate initiatives focused on achieving energy efficiency, sustainability and resiliency goals. These initiatives have spurred renewed interest and focus on behind-the-meter energy optimization strategies and how they can help achieve their goals.
As part of a multi-year partnership and naming rights agreement announced in January 2019, Constellation is the official energy provider for Hall of Fame Village (HOFV) and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of these buildings in the HOFV is the Constellation Center for Excellence, a 75,000-square-foot, mixed-use facility that includes a variety of sports-centric research and programming, office space and retail pads. Constellation provided funding for the Center of Excellence’s sustainability initiatives through its Efficiency Made Easy® (EME) program. EME will enable HOFV to implement energy-efficient technology at the Center and other facilities within the campus without any upfront capital expense.
“We are building a world-class, smart, sustainable and digital facility for research and thought leadership. The Constellation Center For Excellence will be an innovative hub and incubator for companies and individuals across the country to collaborate on critical issues and advance opportunities in sports and in a multitude other environments,” said HOFRECO President and CEO Michael Crawford.
The Constellation Center of Excellence is a living sustainability case study on the HOFV campus. The EME program allowed them to install new infrastructure that is expected to reduce energy consumption and advance the project to the next phase of its development including the identification, installation, and funding of energy efficient technology such as LED lighting displays, electric vehicle charging stations and a state-of-the-art operations center. This unique award-winning solution provides an opportunity to fund energy conservation measures – with no upfront capital – through monthly charges that appear on the Constellation commodity invoice.

Working with Constellation, the facility has also implemented solar and wind energy resources to power the facility, including a rooftop solar array, independent standing lighting structures that utilize solar, wind and battery storage, a solar powered rainwater collection system used to water the facilities’ horticultural features. All analytics and energy updates are tracked by software on the Pear.ai platform, an automated platform that organizes and compiles all energy usage into one system where it’s analyzed. From there, a plan can be developed to determine next steps in the sustainability journey.
Constellation’s expertise doesn’t stop with the Center of Excellence. The HOFV and Constellation are collaborating to identify, implement and fund other efficiency improvements across the campus that can help reduce energy costs, modernize facilities, and meet sustainability goals. These improvements include efficient lighting solutions, safety and security systems, mechanical systems and controls, LED scoreboards and sound solutions, water reclamation equipment, solar arrays, and data analytics.
Constellation can connect you to the products, strategic relationships, and technology that can help you develop and execute your deep energy retrofit and meet your budgetary and sustainability goals. We provide the expertise and resources for a customized strategy that is unique to your business.
