Constellation Speakers Energize the EEI National Key Accounts Workshop Conference

2 min read

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Since 1933, EEI has had an active role in providing public policy leadership and strategic business intelligence, making its annual National Key Accounts Workshop Conference a must-see event for anyone interested in understanding the relationship between energy and their own business today.

The event was held at Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. From October 8 through October 11, attendees descended upon the city to participate in workshops, seminars and get caught up to date on the latest trends in the energy industry.

This year, Constellation was thrilled to have the opportunity to send a few of our own to Maryland. If you didn’t have a chance to attend for yourself this year, don’t worry—we’re here to fill you in on what you missed.

Joe Falci, Senior Business Development Manager, Talks Energy Buying Basics

The EEI Conference offered attendees five separate tracks, depending on their interests and business objectives. For those new to and still learning about energy procurement, the “Fundamentals of Energy Track” was a great opportunity. Our own Joe Falci spearheaded a portion of this track with his “Energy Buying 101/201” lecture.

In his presentation, Falci got started by breaking down the latest in competitive energy market trends, and how buying opportunities differ across the country. Falci went further, breaking down the very core components of how electricity generation prices are calculated.

By couching these figures between larger historical energy pricing trends and procurement strategies, attendees of Falci’s workshop were able to get a more sound understanding about what it takes to get the most out of your energy strategy.

Finally, Joe demonstrated that price is only one variable in energy costs, and that both quantity and timeframe can have as significant an impact on your bottom line. Only by exploring all products, assessing your own budgetary constraints and your tolerance for risk, can you find the right solution for your business needs.

Greg Fox, Director of Business Development, Discusses Energy Efficiency Opportunities

For retailers in attendance looking for ways to compel employees and the organization as a whole to cultivate a more energy-efficient business model, the sustainability track afforded many unique suggestions. Greg Fox, our Director of Business Development, spoke about how businesses can conduct Energy Treasure Hunts, in which employees are encouraged to seek out energy efficiency opportunities, fostering greater awareness and encouraging responsible energy choices.

Greg spoke alongside Staples Director of Energy and Environmental Management, Bob Valair, who tied in how Constellation has supported his organization’s energy efficiency efforts in the past. The two compared their own experience with Energy Treasure Hunts at their own facilities, giving the audience a chance to see first-hand that every employee has the power to take positive measures to help their company meet sustainability goals.

At Constellation, we believe that it is just as important to provide information as it is to provide energy. After all, electricity is just a tool. To have a successful business, you’ve still got to know how best to use it. That’s why we’re proud to send members of our own teams out into the community and conferences to help inform customers on how to make the best energy choices for their needs.
