PowerOptions Selects Constellation As New Electricity Supplier

PowerOptions, the leading energy buying consortium of nonprofit and government entities in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, announced the selection of a new electricity supplier for its retail energy program. Constellation has been selected through a competitive bidding process for an estimated $300 million four-year contract.

“This selection was the culmination of an extensive competitive process,” said PowerOptions CEO Cynthia Arcate. “We received proposals from a number of suppliers interested in helping our members navigate today’s energy market. We looked for a creative approach that would provide real value for our members – and we found it in Constellation.”

Through the relationship with Constellation, PowerOptions’ members will receive competitive pricing, favorable terms and conditions, as well as solid customer service and support. Also, members have access to energy technology products and services, including electric vehicle charging stations, data analytics and energy storage. Members have the option to fund energy efficiency measures as part of their monthly electricity supply bill.

Electricity supply under the new contract will begin in June of 2019. Additional services offered by Constellation will be available to PowerOptions members immediately.

“For over 10 years, PowerOptions has worked with Direct Energy to address the needs of our members as the industry has changed. But, as we look to the future, we believe that Constellation is the right choice for us and our members,” said Arcate.

PowerOptions currently serves over 500 members, including hospitals, higher education institutions, municipalities, state agencies and smaller nonprofits, in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Those members purchase about $200 million annually in energy through programs for electricity and natural gas. The electricity program has nearly 200 megawatts of demand and one billion kilowatt-hours.
