Football Season Kicks Off Sacks for Science Program with the Baltimore Ravens and Local Schools

2 min read

Football season is just around the corner, and that means students, from Virginia to Delaware, get another opportunity to visit the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, Md. – for free. For the seventh year in a row, Constellation is proudly sponsoring bus trips to the Maryland Science Center for students, grades pre-K through 12.

Thanks to the Baltimore Ravens and Constellation’s Sacks for Science program, nearly 5,500 students from just under 115 regional school groups have visited the Maryland Science Center to explore the fields of science, technology and energy. For each sack made by the Ravens defense during the regular season, Constellation will send a school group to visit the Power Up! Exhibit at the Maryland Science Center. The Power Up! exhibit gives students an interactive look at the science of electricity with stations that showcase renewable energy resources, energy conservation and the process of generating and distributing electricity.

In addition, each season, one lucky school group will also win the grand prize – a behind-the-scenes tour of M&T Bank Stadium with a special guest!

In addition to the program, Constellation, the preferred energy provider for the Baltimore Ravens, helped the team construct a 375-kilowatt (DC) solar generation project at the Under Armour Performance Center, the Ravens’ headquarters and training facility in Owings Mills, Md. This roof-mounted system consists of approximately 1,210 photovoltaic panels on the facility’s field house and grounds keeping buildings. The solar panels generate nearly 15% of the team headquarters’ electricity needs.

Pursuing sustainability upgrades, such as the installation of on-site solar system for a home or business like the Ravens has many benefits, including potentially reduced electric bills, increased energy independence, improved reliability and reduced carbon emissions, providing cleaner air for your community. By structuring its solar projects as power purchase agreements or solar services agreements, Constellation offers solar installations that may require no upfront capital from customers and may provide fixed power costs that are less than projected market rates.
